Therapeutic Treatment
1 / Gentle cleansing
Cleansing must be gentle and performed by hand (without a cloth or friction) to avoid irritating the skin.
Water must be used, “not too hot” (no higher than 33°C), potentially softened with a lipid component (bath oil).
It must include the use of a lipid-enriched soap (not alkaline) or gel to gently cleanse without irritation.
2 / Applying an emollient
Applying an emollient is necessary to improve xerosis (dry skin), reduce itching, prevent flare-ups, reduce the need for dermocorticosteroids.
The emollient is designed to hydrate the skin and strengthen the barrier function.
Daily skin care must be explained, demonstrated, and monitored
The emollient must be applied all over the skin: limbs, torso, face,
gently massaging with the hands, after drying off the skin (dabbing)
after the bath.
